What qualities make a great leader? I think all great leaders are people of integrity, which is a quality that’s harder to find these days. Great leaders lead with a blend of encouragement and accountability. They speak positively to the people in their charge and encourage them to do their best work. They also hold them accountable to do it. That’s the kind of leader who I can respect and follow.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I’m obsessed with flying! I love the feel of taking off in an airplane, that moment when your stomach drops. Most people think that feels scary, but it’s exhilarating to me. I’ve ridden in a helicopter twice in my life (Alaska and Hawaii) and both times it was amazing. So, I’d love to learn to fly a helicopter.
Do you have a cause or charity that is close to your heart? Explain. Yes! For the past twenty years, I’ve supported Fairhaven Rescue Mission in Covington. One of the lessons my Dad taught me when I hit financial rock bottom is that you always have something to give. I felt like a failure because of my money mess. My credit was shot and I had a ton of debt, but I certainly wasn’t homeless. I started off just giving $5 week to Fairhaven and it reminded me to be grateful for all of my blessings.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would that be? Stop worrying about what other people think about you, because they’re thinking about you way less than you think! Just go ahead and do what makes your heart happy.
Do you have a routine each day that helps keep you balanced? Yes! Most morning I do a short guided meditation, spend time in God’s word, journal, and workout. I don’t always get to do all of them every day, but my energy and mindset are best on the days when I do.
