Non-Profit Spotlight: Women’s Crisis Center is a foundational community center, offering comprehensive services for people impacted by domestic violence and sexual abuse, while transforming our community through violence prevention.   We understand that when everything is on the line, everything counts.

When did the organization start and by whom?

The organization was formed in 1976 as a response to a series of rapes in the community. It was very much a grassroots organization, with a group women taking turn manning a phone in case anyone needed support! In 1979, the organization grew to support victims of domestic violence and provided a safe shelter for individuals and families fleeing from partner violence. Over the last 40+ years, we’ve grown in services to meet the needs of victim/survivors and the community. Services include hospital advocacy, legal advocacy, economic empowerment, a 24/7 hotline, two emergency shelters, prevention and education, and most recently a pet protection program!

What makes your organization stand out among others?

All of our services are completely free and confidential! We also serve men, as we know they can be victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.

What are the greatest needs of the organization?

We could always use gift cards! They’re great to give out to clients for various needs (gas, household items, etc)

How many clients have you served?

In 2020, we served 1,049 individuals in our outreach office! This does not include who stayed in our shelter or hotline calls.

Who do you assist? Why?

We work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. We work with both primary victims as well as secondary victims. We believe that if you experience domestic violence or sexual assault, you shouldn’t have to go through it alone! We always want to provide a trauma-informed space for victim/survivors to be safe and heal.

How can people get involved with the organization?

We would love it if you would be interested in being a hospital runner for Women’s Crisis Center! We work closely with the local hospitals to ensure that if a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault is at the hospital, the hospital will call a WCC advocate to support the victim.
